New Volunteer Opportunity:
Kim Swisher, Community Education Coordinator for the School District of Rhinelander, would like to partner with Master Gardeners of the North to present some gardening topics to the public. Under the heading of “Putting Your Garden to Bed”, we came up with several possible subjects: Mulching & Composting, Fall Bulbs, Perennials (dividing & cutting back), and Preserving Your Harvest. Open to suggestions! Kim suggested small classes of 15, with “hands-on” workshops perhaps being the format. We can discuss this more at the picnic, but it would give MGVs an opportunity to educate (our primary goal!) and we would have use of the school facilities and publicity.
Volunteer opportunity for Animal Lovers: The Rhinelander Animal Shelter has requested help to spiff up their planting area. At first glance, it appears to be mainly in need of weeding, pruning dead growth from shrubs and general clean up. (Maybe some weed killer around the rock mulch.) Please contact Diane if you are interested.
